Last night, Aug. 2nd, IDF forces allowed 180 members of Fatah to take refuge in Israeli territory for humanitarian reasons. Twenty-two of the Fatah members were wounded and were taken to Israeli hospitals and received medical treatment.

The 180 Palestinian Fatah members fled Gaza City following the Hamas terror organization’s raid. The armed Fatah members escaped to the security fence and were allowed to enter Israel through the Nahal Oz crossing after laying down their arms.

The Commander of the Northern Brigade in Gaza, Col. Ron Ashrov tells the developments of the event: “At 05:00, the clashes between Hamas and Fatah started; the IDF did not get involved. At around 16:00, a Fatah clan began moving towards the security fence. There were numerous injured people and we decided to help and evacuate them. The evacuation process continued until 21:00. 180 Palestinian Fatah members were transferred into Israel, 22 of whom were lightly to severely wounded.”

For his part, Palestinian West Bank chief M. Abbas will only grant asylum to three of the fighters, leaving the rest to be turned back over to Hamas in Gaza, assuming the Israel High Court of Justice allows that to happen.
